Playful Polka Dots

This past week has been a particularly draining week for me - I am so relieved it's Friday!
In a perfect world, I would climb into bed and stay there for the whole weekend.
In fact, in that perfect world my bedding would be covered in playful polka dots like these...

For the Love of Blog!

Nothing inspires me more than a good blog…
Okay, that’s a lie – I am quite easily inspired, but in a world filled with wonder, who wouldn’t be?
I will however say that reading a well written blog, or scrolling through beautiful images is on my list of my most favourite things to do.

I have a whole bunch of blogs saved to “favourites”, some names I remember by heart, while others are accessed via my dashboard. Some of these blogs I read faithfully, while others I catch up on when I’m in the mood for something in particular. Some are art related, others cooking related, there are fashion blogs, and lifestyle blogs… some of these blogs make use of more pictures than words, while others only use words.

As much as I love reading blogs, I love having my own blog – and I am proud of it.
Just the other day I was scrolling through some of my previous posts – It was so much fun being reminded of thoughts I had pondered, feelings I had felt, pictures I had ogled – I found a rant in there too, and more spelling and grammar mistakes than I’d like to admit.

…At this stage I would like to admit that when I started typing this post, it was to speak about something completely different – But I’m going to stick with this and save my original thought for another post…

I often feel guilty that I don’t post more – I honestly don’t know where the time goes – But try to remind myself that blogging is something I do for fun, and I shouldn’t turn it into a chore…But could anything one enjoys so much ever be a chore? Surely it would just be a source of fulfillment?
I envy people who blog for a living – a dream come true…

Or is it?

Mark Anthony once said “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life”… I know right – quoting Mark Anthony – but hey, it makes sense…

Or does it?

I have always loved fashion – and all that comes with it – Fabric, design, illustration, magazines, clothing, styling, shows, trends, designers… So there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to get into the industry once I had left school. I went to a prestigious fashion school (some would argue), and got a degree in fashion (yes, this is a real qualification…if you consider a BA a real qualification), and I have worked in the industry for almost 8 years – when I tell people what I do, they generally seem quite excited, and I am sure a couple of them envy me, as I envy professional bloggers.

Being in this industry is nothing like I pictured it when dreaming about “one day when I grow up…” I think to some degree, when something becomes work, it sucks a lot of the joy out of it. Perhaps it would be the same if blogging became my job.

I enjoy reading various interior magazines and decor books for inspiration and ideas on decorating. Lately I have noticed that copper accents are quite on trend at the moment. I imagine it would be quite a mission to keep it clean and shiny, but I love the way that it brings warmth to a room.

Potter Party

When I was little I remember sitting on my gran’s lap listening to the tales of Peter Rabbit in Mr. McGregor’s vegetable patch, Jemima Puddle-Duck hiding her eggs, and Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle the hedgehog washerwoman.

She had the whole Beatrix potter collection on the bottom shelf of her bookshelf in her bedroom, and would allow me to choose one of the books so she could read it to me – Sometimes, she would even read me more than one story. These same books belonged to my mom and aunt when they were little, and now they belong to me.

I found this Peter Rabbit Party post on Style Me Pretty Living, and it brought back so many memories.

What a wonderful idea for a theme for a children’s party.

Love Hurts

I believe love is the most important of all virtues.

I watched a few TED talks on the subject, one by Yann Dall’Aglio called “Love – You’re doing it wrong”, and another by Helen Fisher called “The Brain in Love”.
In her talk, Helen Fisher quoted the below poem, which really spoke to me.

Fire runs through my body with the pain of loving you
Pain runs through my body with the fires of my love for you
Sickness wanders my body with my love for you
Pain like a boil about to burst with my love for you
Consumed by the fire with my love for you
I remember what you said to me
I am thinking of your love for me
I am torn by your love for me
Pain and more pain
Where are you going with my love?
I am told you will go from here
I am told you will leave me here
My body is numb with grief
Remember what I have said, my love

Good bye, my love, good bye

Love is a truly beautiful thing, but it can be so painful too – Not only when love is lost.
I think, for me, the pain comes in because I love so deeply. It is all consuming – It is scary – It is hard to believe that another person could requite this kind of love.

The Perfect Wedding

I am pretty sure that from the time a little girl is old enough to comprehend the stuff of fairy tales, she has in her mind an idea of the day she will one day get married to her very own prince charming.

For me, this fantasy was pink, with a giant meringue wedding dress – In fact, I am sure I still have the magazine cut out of the dress I was sure I would wear by the time I was married at the age of 21. This was the age that I had decided it was best to get married; it would give me ample time to enjoy my husband before we had children, by 23.

As I steadily head toward 30 –unmarried- I no longer have deadlines in place and the idea of my perfect wedding has changed dramatically, as has my belief in the existence of prince charming. I do however still dream of the big day as I diligently pin pictures to my wedding board on Pinterest (Admit it, you have one too).

I came across the below wedding on Pinterest (originally from on Wedding Chicks), and I really wanted to share it (It clearly inspired a post on my neglected blog).

I think it is just perfect.  The perfect venue, the perfect wedding dress, the prefect flowers, the perfect table setting. All captured so beautifully by Youri Claessens. It is bright and colourful, yet humble and understated – I just love it.
